A Home in Bordighera

Where to buy, what homes cost and what is changing in the palm-lined town on Capo Sant’Ampelio.

Living in Bordighera

A Town of Palms, Gardens and Villas

Bordighera lies about 20 km from the French border. Its cape, Capo Sant’Ampelio, is the southernmost point of Liguria.

The town is built where the Maritime Alps meet the sea, which gives it a sheltered microclimate and mild winters. Bordighera Alta, the historic centre, sits on the hill above the cape. Below it lie the 19th-century lower town, built for English visitors, and the Lungomare Argentina, at 2.3 km the longest promenade on the Riviera. The coast of France is visible from the town.

People buy here for a period apartment near the sea, a villa in the gardens of the hill, or a quiet base close to Monaco and Nice. It is one of the higher-priced towns on this stretch of coast.

Investing in Bordighera

Small Steps on the Seafront

Bordighera’s projects are modest in size. The council has been completing the second section of the Lungomare Argentina promenade, between Piazza Bengasi and the station, with new paving, lighting and furniture. An extra €600,000 was set aside in 2025 to finish it.

In July 2026 the council approved €54,000 of electrical and lighting work at the marina. A larger plan to expand the marina, proposed by the company Porto Sant’Ampelio, restarted its approval process in February 2025. It is a feasibility study, not a final project, and it needs national approval.

Timings are the stated aims of councils and developers, and several approvals are still pending.
