Invest in the Riviera

A clear view of the Italian Riviera market, and a team on the ground to act on it.

Why Now

A Coast in Focus

Asking prices rose in most main towns last year, harbour schemes are planned and visitor numbers are high. Here is what the figures show.

Key Opportunities

Where the Investment Is Going

Harbours and Marinas

The waterfront is the coast’s biggest story. In Sanremo, Reuben Brothers, who have held Portosole since 2016, are behind an old harbour scheme put at around £93m, with work expected to start at the earliest towards the end of 2027. Imperia plans a tender for about £141m of marina works over 2027 to 2032. At the French border, Monaco Ports has run Cala del Forte in Ventimiglia since 2020, with a concession to 2094.

Transport and Rail

Nice Côte d’Azur Airport is about 45 minutes by car from Sanremo, and the A10 runs the length of the coast. Liguria wants to double the last single-track stretch of the Genoa to Ventimiglia railway; in October 2026 the European Commission backed adding it to the Mediterranean Corridor, with an aim to start in 2027 and finish by 2035. Along the sea, the old railway line is now a 24 km cycle path.

Tourism Demand

The province of Imperia welcomed 984,628 visitors in 2025, up 3.7%, and more than half came from abroad. Across Liguria, nights rose 3.75% to 20.8 million. Holiday letting is well established, with 7,978 registered tourist rental apartments in the province in 2025.

Timings are the stated aims of councils and developers. Several approvals and funding steps are still pending.

Scarce long-term rentals

Few homes are offered for long-term rent: in September 2026, across seven of the main towns, Immobiliare.it listed 197 homes to rent against 3,106 for sale, roughly one for every sixteen.
